Elmwood Park is a large park—Omaha’s second largest behind Levi Carter Park—in Midtown Omaha. Its 216.4 acres sit directly south of the campus of the University of Nebraska, Omaha.
Founded in 1889, the park has a long history in Omaha, serving initially as a large green space to escape the city. As Omaha has grown around it, Elmwood Park has integrated intself, serving as the central hub to the Elmwood Park neighborhood, host to children in strollers and frisbee throwing college students alike.
It has been the recipient of donations from Warren Buffett, who built a golf ball stand for its golf ball course, and the Peter Kiewet Foundation, who donated $1 million for various park renovations. It is the host to the popular Shakespeare on the Green series of free outdoor plays in the summer, a truly special Omaha tradition.
Connected to Memorial Park via footbridge, Elmwood Park is nice place to relax, and a perfect starting point for a long walk to to Dundee, or a short walk to a function at UNO.
