Gifford Park
Tools
Gifford Park is a 5.6 acre park and the centerpiece of the Gifford Park neighborhood. The park is named for Dr. Harold Gifford, Sr. who donated land for the green space back in 1912. The park was added to the Omaha park system in 1916 and currently stretches diagonally from 35th Avenue and Davenport Street to 33rd Street and Cass Street.
The Gifford Park Neighborhood Association has actively maintained and upgraded the park since their creation in 1988 (meetings are usually held the first Thursday of every month, 7pm, at the Creighton Medical Center). Gifford Park currently features a playground, a baseball diamond, a pair of tennis courts (where they offer FREE lessons), and paths for walking and biking. There is also a sheltered area for events and a community garden (3416 Cass Street)—there are youth and teen gardening programs—that could serve as a model for other neighborhoods in Omaha.
In addition to the Gifford Park neighborhood, the space is located near the neighborhoods of Bemis Park, Gold Coast, and the Near North Side.
