Benson Days spruced up its branding with a slick website and a new name: Benson SummerFest. What didn’t change was the end product. Shutting down Maple Street between 59th and 63rd Streets, the SummerFest is a fun community event in mid June geared for families by day and the bar crowd by night, with activities, vendors, food, and plenty of live music.

The SummerFest is a pedestrian friendly way to see your neighbors on the Benson strip. It’s a block party atmosphere all day, and a great excuse to eat some kettle corn, buy some local art, get your face painted—or throw a few balls at the dunk tank if you’re feeling malevolent.

Past Benson SummerFest schedules have called for a pancake feed, car and motorcycle shows, an appearance of the Benson Farmer’s market, art and crafts, and one heck of an evening lineup. Upwards of 20 bands have performed in Benson’s five venues (The Waiting Room Lounge, Barley Street Tavern, The Sydney, PS Collective, and Burke’s Pub) charging only a humble $10 all-access admission.

Benson SummerFest might not be a circle-the-day-on-your-calendar type event, but on a sunny Saturday in June, you’re missing out if you don’t stop by.
