Metropolitan Community College, in collaboration with Creighton University, is kicking off Hispanic/Latino Heritage month, Sept. 15–Oct. 15, with the “Bless Me, Ultima” video. Based on the controversial novel by acclaimed author Rudolfo Anaya, “Bless Me, Ultima” is a turbulent coming-of-age story about Antonio Marquez, a young boy growing up in New Mexico in World War II. When a mysterious curandera named Ultima comes to live with his family, she teaches him about the power of the spiritual world. There will be a post-film discussion-social in Billy Blues Alumni Grill. Free parking is available in the upper level lot east of Creighton Law School on 20th and Cass Streets This year’s theme for Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month is Hispanics: Serving and leading our nation with pride and honor. There are five additional discussions/presentations scheduled over the month. The event is supported by the National Arts Council and Nebraska Cultural Endowment.
