EmailJoin us for a performance and public introduction to Theaster Gates’ Town Hall project. This event will provide an overview of Gates’ practice and process and an opportunity for public discussion regarding his project in development for North Omaha.
Gates approaches the Town Hall project with the hybrid perspective of an urban planner, artist, developer and community organizer. His work frames the neighborhood block as social sculpture, and buildings as sculptural material. His projects in Chicago, St. Louis, and Detroit offer enlivened models for public space, cooperation and ingenuity. Gates has said, "my work begins with the right to re-envision Place…not just as art, but as a way of living. I want to create a place and work with the group of people that can create solutions for North Omaha internally."
