Stephen J. Abraham MS, LIMHP, CGP is a noted Omaha psychotherapist and one of the most highly trained mental health professionals in the city. His unique approach to psychotherapy focuses on the relationship between the therapist and the patient, modeling the many relationships we encounter in our everyday lives.

If you’ve realized that something isn’t working in your life, it is time to find a therapist in Omaha that can help. From trouble navigating life’s basics, to seeking greater enlightenment, self-reliance, and the realization of your inner genius, there are many common reasons for seeking therapy, including:

  • Persistent unhappiness
  • A feeling that life is unmanageable
  • Excess fear or anger
  • Repetition of unwanted thoughts
  • Severe anxiety
  • Depression
  • Job or relationship dissatisfaction
  • Problems with friends or family
  • Problems relating to sexuality
  • Parental issues

Approach to Therapy

All patients are welcome, and in the past, Stephen has specialized in treating both Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and adults who were molested as children, in addition to training and supervising other therapists. He practices an insight-oriented, psychodynamic approach that focuses on cultivating an inner-wisdom within the patient. A strong therapist to patient relationship  is important as he does not advocate the "behavioral modification" and "cures in five sessions" approaches common to many other practices.

Patients

Stephen is experienced in treating many kinds of patients:

  • Individuals
  • Adolescents
  • Children
  • Family Counseling
  • Couples Counseling
  • Group Counseling
  • LGBT Counseling (including gender identity issues)

Qualifications

Stephen holds a Masters in Guidance and Counseling and has continued his training at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California, at an ashram in Pune, India, and with famed psychologist Carl Rogers at the University of California at San Diego’s Group Therapy program.

Stephen has had many mentors in his psychotherapy studies, including such influential names as Robert Bly, PhD; James Hillman, PhD; and Marion Woodman, PhD. He is an active writer in the field (e.g., his article Narcissism and Spirituality) and the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from UNO and the Presidential Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field from his national association.

About the Office

The office was built with the environment always in mind. From the paint on the walls, to the glues used in the floors, to the stain and stuffing in the furniture, care was taken with every decision to ensure comfort, serenity, and ecological sustainability. Completely redesigned in 2010, the office is spacious with ample natural light and sufficient room for group therapy sessions.

It is centrally located at 7602 Pacific Street, with convenient access to I-80, I-680, and Dodge Street, near the very center of modern Omaha.
