Math doesn’t have to be boring. Combine friends, fun, a good bar, a little beer, and some bikes, and you have the equation for Greensprints, hosted by Greenstreet Cycles at The Slowdown on Friday, March 26, 2010.

Greensprints is Omaha’s local variant of the now global Goldsprints phenomenon. The premise is simple: take two single speed bikes, make the front fork stationary, and put the back tire on rollers hooked up to some fancy NASA-grade computer wizardry. Sprinkle a little voodoo over the set up, and make sure there’s a large projector which shows the progress each bike is making on its quest to cover 500 virtual meters.

3…2…1… Go! It’s time for 20-30 seconds of pain, and a possible date with the puke bucket.

Pictures and videos of the evening below. To see more fancy photos (fancy as in, professional and well lit), check our eventual runner-up Lucas Marshall’s coverage of the event as well as the KCSprints event in Lincoln. He also edited together a sweet video, set to the soothing sounds of Nine Inch Nails.

A) This is the healthiest activity I’ve ever seen people engaged in at a bar!

B) I’ve never really contemplated the need for helmets on stationary bikes, but it looks like you might have found a market for it here :)

C) I’ve never heard of Greensprints before, but I always know I can count on you to bring me the “underground” of this great city of ours. For that, I am eternally grateful. Thanks! (Oh, and in a record number of words this time, no less!!) :)
